How To Mix And Match Prints: Polka Dot Vs. Striped

Today’s post is all about my impromptu transition from summer to fall that lead to me mix and matching prints. I have been leaning towards polka dot prints a lot lately, some of you might have noticed on my Instagram page and just recently I found the cutest, fall perfect top on Shein.com that I had to pair with this wide legged hem striped pants, which is also from Shein.com. Shein is my go to site right now for cute, trendy pieces at the most affordable prices. I want to share a few tips on how to mix match prints especially for the upcoming season.

It is risky, more so difficult to pull off different prints in one look. It was easy breezy once I imagined these pieces together, here some tips and tricks on how to mix and match two different prints to create a look:

Simpler print match easier:

The less complicated the prints are, the easier it is to wear it with another print. Take for example, this mustard top, which only has white dots (polka dots); it would look more confusing if it had multiple colored dots and in different sizes, if you were to style it with another print. As for the pants, black and white prints tend to be the more basic form of print and can easily be worn with anything.

Don’t match prints, match colours and tones:

Okay so you’re wondering, aren’t we taking about prints? We are, but lets look at it from a different point of view. The striped pants has mustard stripes on the legs and the polka dot top is mustard. They both easily compliment each simple because of the colours and not necessarily the prints. Another view points are; that yellow and black goes well together and so does yellow and white.

Break the prints apart for a more organized look

My pants has a leather waist that looks like a belt. It shows the distinctive difference between both prints, however, manages to create a well put together look. You can break your prints apart with a solid colour by wearing a belt to help to create a more cohesive look.
