Firstly, Happy Easter one and all. Even though this post is a bit behind schedule, wanted to share it regardless. I was excited for the Easter holiday for many reasons but we cannot forget the most important reason. It is a time for us to reflect on the death and resurrection of Christ. I made a trip to Portland for my Easter and would love to share the details with you guys.
Jamaican Easter traditions include, attending Church, going to the beach and enjoying the delight of Easter bun and cheese or Easter bun and fish…yummy! Since it will be a long break from my 9-5 job, I had to put some plans in place to enjoy it while it lasted.
We planned on going to Portland, another beautiful Parish in Jamaica, just a few days before the holiday. More specifically, Frenchman’s Cove in Portland, Jamaica; a resort area with a beautiful beach, that I am very fond of and always wanted to visit. I have been to Portland maybe once before on business and it was a big deal for me to go back for the pleasure.
Portland is almost 3 hours away from Kingston, where I am staying; couldn’t recall the journey being that long on my first visit, however, it was a long ride to Frenchman’s Cove. Since we were in for a long drive on the road, we turned it into a little road trip and sight seeing expedition. Making random site-seeing stops and taking everything in, Portland had started to live up to my expectations.
Seeing such beauties along the way made us even more excited and our patience started to run out. Our only aim now is to arrive at Frenchman’s Cove.
After a few more hours on the road, upon arriving and entering the compound, we were told that they had closed off the beach for a particular event, bummed beyond belief, we decided to head on over to Reach Falls, another beautiful attraction, which was suppose to be a few miles down from Frenchman’s. After driving and driving, we finally arrived to Reach Falls, only to find out a few minutes later that they had closed off for the day too. A bit disappointed but we were still able to make the best of day.
I will definitely go back to Portland sometime in the near future, until then, I am sharing a few of beautiful shots were able to take along the way.
